DETAILS OF PRIMARY DIRECTORS:

Robert Garton Smith, LLB, BCom, GDipFinPlanning (Sec Inst), F Fin

CHAIR

Robert Garton Smith is the Chairman of Primary Securities Ltd and has been its responsible manager in relation to managed investments since inception.

Robert has degrees in law, commerce and financial planning and is a legal practitioner and a registered tax (financial) advisor.

Robert is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia and the Australian Compliance Institute and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia and an associate member of the Financial Advice Association Australia.

He has worked in the area of managed investments since preparing Australia’s first feature film prospectus in 1981 and has prepared and overseen dozens of managed investment schemes relating to financial assets, derivatives, property, property developments, mortgages, film, forestry, and other investments.

Natasha Olsen, LLB

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Natasha Olsen is the Managing Director of Primary Securities Ltd and has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Notre Dame University and was admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of Western Australia in November 2015. Natasha is a member of The Law Society of Western Australia.

With the exception of two years in London, Natasha has been employed by Primary since its formation and has considerable experience of all aspects of the business.

Toni Smith

DIRECTOR

Toni Smith is manager of the Willmott Forests 1995-1999 Project.  She has worked in the agricultural sector for over 20 years, having lead several productive agricultural projects including forestry, broadacre cropping and livestock production.

Toni has extensive skills across rural land acquisition and financial management as well as practical farm and plantation management capabilities which ensure the performance of operations. Toni is passionate about regenerative agriculture, low-cost production, and food security solutions.

Toni has formal qualifications in accounting and safety and environmental management and sits on several other company boards related to agriculture. Toni and her husband also have their own property in Northern NSW, where they breed Angus cattle and Dorper sheep.

DETAILS OF PRIMARY’S STAFF:

Anna Catelli, B Juris, LLB, Dip Ed

LEGAL OFFICER / COMPLAINTS OFFICER

Anna Catelli was admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1981 and in addition to her position as Complaints Officer for Primary, she is also the Legal Officer.

Anna is responsible for preparing agreements on behalf of Primary or any Schemes in which Primary has an interest, as well as reviewing agreements which Primary proposes to enter into.

GRAHAM SEGALL, BCom, LLB, CA(AUS)

COMPLIANCE OFFICER

Graham Segall was born and bred in South Africa, before moving to Perth in 2001, he has qualifications in both Accounting and Law from both South Africa and Australia.

Graham has over 30 year’s experience as an Auditor, Bank Tax Advisor, Specialised Finance Advisor and Marketer and a Risk and Compliance Professional. He is skilled in a combination of commercial, financial, risk and compliance disciplines, almost exclusively in the financial services sector.

Saphal Shrestha, B.ACC

ACCOUNTANT

Saphal Shrestha has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Accounting from King’s Own Institute. He started his career as a Tax Accountant at an accounting firm in Sydney.

Prior to commencing with Primary Saphal worked under a registered tax agent allowing him to gain experience in the preparation of tax returns, financial statements and business activity statements.

Emily Yang, B.ACC, CPA

ACCOUNTANT

Emily Yang has a Bachelor of Accounting Degree at Edith Cowan University Western Australia and graduated in 2012. Prior to commencing with Primary Emily worked as an Accounts and Payroll Officer. She became a Certified Practising Accountants Australia in 2023

Geoff Potter, BCom, CPA

RESPONSIBLE MANAGER FOR PROPERTY

Geoff Potter is the Principal of Capital APM (Asset Performance Management).  Geoff has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and is a member of the Certified Practicing Accountants Australia as well as being a Licensed Auctioneer and a Licensed Real Estate Agent.

Geoff Potter is actively involved in the area of Asset Management of properties for a private client base, advice on acquisition and disposal of property, and offering strategic business development advice to several real estate companies.

Geoff set up his own consulting and advisory business in 2006 following a successful 30 year career as a principal in commercial, industrial and residential agency Burgess Rawson (1986 to 2006) and prior to that in residential property with Airey Potter Davies (now Gordon Davies Real Estate) (1976 to 1986).   During the last 36 years Geoff has been involved in managing and building several successful and highly profitable businesses.

Scott Vanson, BCom (Property and Finance)

RESPONSIBLE MANAGER FOR PROPERTY (Sub Divisions)

Scott Vanson is the Principal of Acuitus.  With a career spanning over 15 years in the property industry, Scott has gained a broad knowledge of residential development markets in both Australia and New Zealand, current developments and market trends, new business development strategies, implementation of operational strategies and detailed knowledge of project financial management and assessment techniques.

Scott formerly held senior positions at Brookfield Multiplex and Stockland in the fields of acquisitions and development.

Dean Smith

RESPONSIBLE MANAGER FOR FINANCIAL ASSET SCHEMES

Dean has 15 years’ experience in financial markets and specialises in Australian and International Equities and their derivatives. Dean is a Responsible Manager for Equities and Securities and assists with day to day overseeing of Primary securities related businesses. Dean is also the Head of the Equities and Derivatives trading desk at Primary Securities and holds a Diploma of Financial Services, ADA level 1 & 2, and is RG146 compliant.  Dean is also the administrator to the Managed Investment Account Service scheme.

Dean is actively involved in mentoring and educating clients in both directional and non-directional systems.  Dean is a regular guest speaker and is actively involved in presenting to industry groups such as The Australian Investors Association (AIA), Australian Shareholders Association (ASA), Australian Technical Analyst Association (ATAA) and industry interest groups.

Dean is a former member of the Australian Technical Analyst Association (ATAA) for nine years and past ATAA Queensland chapter President and Nation ATAA Director.

Before joining Primary Securities, Dean was responsible for dealing with International settlements and custodians throughout Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia) and the United Kingdom for retail and wholesale funds.

Laurie Winton Dip FS, Dip FS (FMBM)

RESPONSIBLE MANAGER FOR LOANS, MORTGAGES & PROPERTY

Laurie Winton has over 35 years’ experience in the Australian Banking and Finance Industries culminating in Senior Managerial roles in the NAB & St George Bank, predominantly in the property banking sector specialising in all aspects of development finance.

Laurie holds a Diploma in Financial Services and a Diploma in Finance Broking & Mortgage Management.

Bruno Romeo B Bus, Dip FMBM

RESPONSIBLE MANAGER FOR LOANS, MORTGAGES & PROPERTY

Bruno Romeo has over 35 years’ experience in business services, funds management and commercial lending including senior positions at Perpetual Trustees and Great Southern.  Bruno has a strong emphasis in credit analysis, deal structuring and compliance.

Bruno holds a Bachelor of Business and a Diploma in Finance Broking & Mortgage Management.

DETAILS OF PRIMARY’S COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE:

Laurie Factor FGIA (Life), FCIS, FCPA, BCom, Grad Dip (Bus Law), MCom

Laurie Factor has a diverse background as a practitioner in accounting, secretarialship, corporate governance and administration with companies (listed and unlisted) and as an academic specialising in corporate law, corporate governance and company secretarial practice.  Prior to retirement he was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business Law at Curtin University.  He is a Life Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia and holds various appointments at state and national level. He has been a member of the WA Regional Liaison Committee of ASIC since its inception. He is an international member of the Professional Standards Committee of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Chris Carey CA

Chris Carey is a Chartered Accountant with more than 40 years experience in funds management , compliance, engineering, mining and chartered accountancy practice. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and retired Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors. He has been a Director of Lifeline WA since 2012.
